Change of season!
We are nearing the end of squeezing our mid-season varieties so our next stop is to head north into sunny Queensland in search of some early-season Valencia oranges. The Valencia orange is a sweet orange and is traditionally the best for squeezing! And as luck would have it, we know a grower (or three!) from Queensland who can supply us with some juicy Valencia oranges. With the season and variety change I hear you asking, what does this mean and how does it affect the juice? Well, the early-season Valencia oranges are still young so the oranges may have a ‘little bite’ to them. But over the next week or so we will expertly blend the early-season Valencia orange with the last of the mid-season oranges (I know it’s technical isn’t it!) so any change in the juice will be very subtle. As we move into the hotter months, the Valencia orange will sweeten up, and we’ll be able to squeeze and bottle 100% high quality sweet Valencia oranges!
And for my little random orange fact… did you know after squeezing our oranges, we supply farmers with orange peel to feed their cows - about 30 tonne of orange peel a day! That’s a lot of happy cows around Australia! And yes, the cows do thank us!
